Prior to becoming a professional shoe repairer, a pair of heavy-duty work boots that would be worn every day would last a year. After learning how to repair and take care of my own shoes, now they would last close to 5 years. Simple repairs for example like stitching, new heels, new soles and patching increased the wear an extra 4 years.
Some more tips to help protect and your shoes and make them last longer:
- Polish your shoes regularly. This will help to protect the leather and keep them looking new.
- Avoid getting shoes wet. If you must walk in the rain be sure to dry them well.

- Using a shoe horn when putting shoes on will protect the inside heel structure.
- Waterproofing shoes regularly will help keep stains at bay.
