PATH OF THE BLADE: How Knife sharpening works.
December 5, 2022
A sharp knife is a cook’s best friend. With a sharp knife, prep work is quicker and easier. Plus, sharp knives are just plain safer to use than dull ones.
- But how do we go about sharpening a knife?
- What’s the best way to keep your knives razor-sharp?
There are a lot of tools that can bring dull blades back to life. But professional chefs and experts agree that the best knife sharpener is a whetstone.
Not only will it give you the best edge, it also removes the least amount of material. To sharpen your knife with a whetstone, we wet the stone with water, then place the knife on the stone at a pre-determined angle. We use even strokes to move the blade across the entire surface of the stone. With our fine grit stone that we use your knife should be able to take the hairs off your arm when we have finished. A razor edge is what we achieve with every sharpening job.
Sharpening your knives regularly is essential to maintaining them in good condition. And it keeps yourself safe in the kitchen. So put down that dull knife and get it professionally sharpened. Your fingers will thank you.
